Keep America Free, VOTE!

Born a while back, Sharon learned first hand tough precinct politics and is an admirer of George Washington's skillfully fought battles with the Hessians and the British.

She came to Alaska during one of the many "rushes" and became committed to the idea that "stability" and decent paying jobs are "a good thing".

A warm fire and a hot meal beats a gold rush anytime! This is a similar concept to two of kind beats an Ace.

Chair, grassroots committee that proposed and lobbied for the creation and passage of the legislation creating Chugach State Park in 1970.

Co-chair of group winning Anchorage city park power initiative in 1970; member of advisory park committees and park improvement volunteer on every park in our district’s area.

Served as legislative staff to Anchorage Senators & Representatives during the 1971 legislative session, 1973 interim and volunteering during the 1975, 1976 session, and again as staff in the 1995 interim.

Alaskan small publication business owner and operator. Worked with dozens of small business corporations, non-profit organizations throughout Alaska.

Worked with children and families as a mental health counselor, foster mom, parent, youth group leader and school volunteer, beginning in 1963 as a volunteer for the King County, Washington’s Children’s Court in 1963.

Community council chair, and community patrol member.

Alumna, University of Alaska Anchorage (BA in 1972) & Alaska Pacific University (MS in 1992). Presently working toward an advanced degree in UAA’s Public Administration program, with a Health Emphasis.

Serving as the founder and coordinator of the Affordable Health Care Workgroup actively participating in legislator and public awareness of the uninsured and underinsured costs to our state and economy and seeking long-term solutions.

 

Co chair, Legislative Joint Health Caucus. Member of: Military & Veterans Affairs Committee; Health, Education & Social Services; Labor & Commerce; Economic Development, Trade and Tourism; Community and Regional Affairs, Bipartisan Fiscal Policy Caucus. Member of Legislative Finance Subcommittees: University of Alaska; Health and Social Services; Education; Public Safety.

Completion of new University Consortium Library, replacement of API, adequate educational funding for our district’s school, introduction of legislation for Family Preservation; Performance-Based Budget Incentives; Private Health Insurance Pool for Small Business, Self Employed and Non-Profits. Legislative statewide video/audio teleconference program series: Conversations on the Budget (1999), Internet Highway to Alaska (2000), Week of the Uninsured (2003, 2004), Health Caucus Forums on Public Health, Seniors, Alcohol Abuse, Mental Health, Workforce Development, Workmen’s Comp, and Health Insurance.
